Steven Carless - Logistics Manager UK
I joined the Graduate Development Programme in 1995 after graduating from the University of Wolverhampton with a 2.1 Honours degree in Mathematical Business Analysis.
I was originally introduced to Goodyear life during an under-graduate placement year in 1993/94, as part of my university degree. During this time I worked in the UK office as part of the Corporate Strategy and Planning team.
Upon graduation I was offered a full time role in the department and started in September 1995. Since then I have worked in various departments in the Company including Sales, Marketing, Finance and Logistics. After 2 years in the Truck Tyre Sales Department I was offered the opportunity to move into a role in Luxembourg within the Consumer SBU. I moved to Luxembourg in May 2000 and eventually became Sales Forecasting Manager for Europe. I then moved back to UK in January 2004 and now work in the UK head office in Birmingham.
Now back in the UK at the Head Office in Birmingham, my role is Logistics Manager. My main responsibilities include forecasting, planning, inventory management and collaborative planning with customers. This is a key role for the Company as supply chain becomes one of the main drivers in both the success of our Company and our valued customers. Working in Logistics means that I have many opportunities to meet customers and develop plans with them, but it also means that I have to deal with various departments within the Company, which is fantastic! I can honestly say that no day is the same and each one brings a new challenge.
The Graduate Programme has been fantastic for me personally and I have had so many experiences that have given me a very strong grounding in the business. My training and development still continues and I recently completed a Leadership Development Programme with other associates from across the EU and EEMEA region. This was a fantastic learning experience and presented the opportunity to network with similar individuals from different parts of the Company - which was invaluable.
